Nicole Smart, an internationally experienced and sought-after Corporate Trainer for Management and Leadership Development, Certified Executive Coach, and Accredited Neuro Linguistic Programming Practitioner, has been at the top of her game for over two decades. In an engaging chat, she talks about her expertise and how she can help train the leaders of tomorrow

Please tell us in brief about yourself.

I am an Irish national born and raised in Johannesburg, South Africa. I began my training career in 1997 counselling and up-skilling American youth at the YMCA Camp Thunderbird in Lake Wylie, South Carolina, USA. I also headed up the Acting and Drama Programme focusing on confidence and public performance development. Thereafter I went on to become a Business Development Manager for Clube Praia Da Oura Algarve, Portugal.

I continued gaining international experience when I relocated to Dubai, UAE in 2009. I moved to Muscat, Oman in 2011 and has since then been involved in training Omani nationals and expatriates alike towards the sustainable development of the private sector and closing Omanisation gaps within all levels of management as well as soft skills development.

I am an international Corporate Trainer for Management and Leadership Development; Certified Executive Coach through Marshall Goldsmith Stakeholder Centered Coaching (California, USA); Accredited Neuro Linguistic Programming Practitioner (Dubai, UAE); Registered assessor for ILM (Institute of Leadership and Management through City & Guilds (United Kingdom).

My degree in Communication Science incorporated various elements of organisational and social psychology.

How did the move to Oman?

I was based in Dubai and working throughout (Gulf) and I came to Oman in 2010 on a business trip and immediately connected with Oman. I knew then in my heart that Oman is where I belonged, and I am deeply grateful to the nation of Oman for this wonderful opportunity. I am blessed to be able to live in a country I believe in and give back to society through my coaching and training. I care deeply for the sustainable development of Oman.

You recently spoke at TEDx Muscat. What did you address at the event?

I feel very privileged to be selected as one of 10 international speakers invited to share my story at TEDx Muscat Live, on the 28th April 2018. The theme for the TED TALK was ‘’The age of amazement’’ and I shared my personal story and views on how we as citizens can make marginal changes within our homes, that can help the preservation of resources and energy and therefore, contribute to a greener society. A greener Oman.

What kind of training skills do you provide?

Speaking, coaching and training are not a job for me. It is my calling and my purpose, I am enriched every day by the people I am privileged to assist.

My mantra is that: ‘’Every time is like the first time’’, meaning that I approach every single training/coaching/ speaking engagement as a performance, and give the same amount of energy to every as if it were the first time.

With 22 years’ experience in the corporate arena, I specialise in various fields such as: Women Empowerment and Development in the workplace, Train the Trainer, Emotional

Communication Development, Leadership Development, Organisational Behaviour; Employee Motivation and Engagement, Mentoring and Coaching, Sales and Marketing.

I specialize in executive, high-impact, high energy motivational workshops, targeting specific needs, closing skills gaps and focusing on individual and team attitude and behaviour adaptation.

I host workshops world-wide and recently returned from the Riyadh and Jeddah, Saudi Arabia where I conducted Train the Trainer; Mentoring and Engagement for the Ministry of Health, Emotional Intelligence vie live webinar to an audience in Washington D.C.;
